The Story Of Life. MS/2018/11

Life, like a good story, captivates the entire attention of the audience. By mere acceptance of life and its challenges, we follow the story of life as it is being written by the divine Author and acted out in time. We become so involved in the story of life that we often criticize God, proffering sometimes; alternative courses the story would have taken if we were to be the story teller, and at other times, the manner and period a particular life would have ended to make a better story.

But the story of life is beyond personal feelings and wishes. What the story teller has in mind is far removed from us as expressed in the prophecy of Isaiah; “for my thoughts are not your thoughts and your ways are not my ways, declares Yahweh. For the heavens are as high above earth as my ways are above your ways, my thoughts above your thoughts.” ( Is. 55:8-9 )

  • God tells his story on and on with a mysterious variety that reveals his being. Man apprehends the story of life with the categories of short and long, boring and enthusiastic, unfulfilled and fulfilled, etc. Sometimes, life, in line with our categories and wishes ends as we anticipate, but most often,we are left with great surprise and shock when our projections and future plans are halted by the abrupt end of the story of life. At such moments, it is the story teller himself that encourage us to let go and to accept the story as he tells it while we look forward to a happy and everlasting story time with Him in the company of the saints, where we will understand, tell and cherish to the full, the story of God’s love.
